Unhappy Pati

“Hukum. Bhabi-sa nahi hain apne kamre mein.” Said Shlok, worry written on his face.

30 minutes later.

Vikram aditya held unwilling Adhya’s small hand in his as the marched towards the mandap.

“Mujhe nahi karn….

“Ab aapko job hi bolni hai aap shaadi sampan hone ke baad hi bolengi.” Interrupted Vikram

“Phir…”

A look from Vikram and Aadhya went still. Pandit ji gulped and started the matras once he got the cue from Hukum.

Aadhya sat on the massive queen size bed. Frustrated and heart broken. All her attempts were in vain as she could not flee from the mansion. No matter how much she wanted to leave. The shame her parents have to go through and the fire which will ignited in the Hukum’s heart and mind made her unable to take a step further.

It has been over an hour and there was no sign of her husband so she decided to call it a night, getting off the bed she started removing the heavy jewelery. Staring at her reflection in the mirror a lone tear escaped her eyes and down her cheeks. She had her whole life infront of her and getting hitched at 20 was not on her future plan list. She did wanted to marry but only after she was over 25 after having lived her life more and self dependently.

At the mention of her marriage she was on her feet ready to flee leaving all behind. She was too young to be tied down. The plans she had for her future was much bigger and her parents were incapable of entertaining the idea of their daughter excelling in any other sphere of life except for getting married, and becoming the perfect housewife. As much as she loved and respected her parents she was more willed to become a lady who was independent and successful. She wanted to pursue her Masters degree, it was her well kept secret but she was planning to apply for scholarship to study abroad.

Raised in a environment where it was instilled in her from a very young age that a girl was to only strive in becoming a good daughter, wife and mother. A daughter was to be dependent on her parents and after on her husband.

When her father agreed to let her pursue her bachelor's degree she was over the moon and the hope in her was awakened. The man she loved the most, her father was the change. Unlike the society who never appreciated a girl to study and make something out of themselves, her father stood for her only to walk down the same path as the society deemed fit. She was heartbroken, she wiped off the vermillion on her head and was about to pull off her nuptial chain but couldn't garner the strength to do so.

Aadhya was startled when she left a huge hand on her shoulder, lifting her gaze she saw her husband who had a straight face and looked unhappy.
